Family is the heart and soul of why I am a photographer. At every season of life family is important and should be documented in beautiful pictures. As time passes each family member changes. Children grow and some pass on. One of the saddest things I hear is when someone says, "I wish we had gotten a good family picture taken and now she's not here." Don't wait! You never know when a picture may be the last one taken.
On a happier note, family portraits hanging on the wall at home can help improve a child's self confidence. Psychologist David Krauss relates, "I think it is really important to show family as a family unit. It is so helpful for children to see themselves as a valued and important part of that family unit."
I love what Judy Weiser, a psychologist says about family portraits as wall art. “It lets children learn who they are and where they fit. They learn their genealogy and the the uniqueness of their own family and its story. When a child sees a family portrait with them included in the photograph they say to themselves: ‘These people have me as part of what they are, that’s why I belong here. This is where I come from.”
Digital images on a CD or flash drive stored in a drawer do not have the same effect. Not only that, but every time you walk into a room with your family pictures on the wall, it makes you smile! My three grandsons pictures grace my living room walls and my fireplace mantel has pictures of my husband, daughter, mom, dad, brother, sister-in-law, niece and nephew. My grandsons live out of state. I love it when they come visit and look up on my walls and see their pictures. Their faces light up every time!
No art is more beautiful than pictures of your family! Make sure you surround yourself with their lovely faces.
